Waikato District Council - Proposed District Plan (Stage 2 Natural Hazards), Notified 27 July 2020.
This layer is a spatial representation of an overlay in the Proposed District Plan and indicates where land use will be regulated by various associated rules. It will be used as a guide in the regulatory process of implementing the Proposed District Plan and managing land use, subdivision, the environment and economy. This dataset is subject to changes undertaken through the Resource Management act.Note individual Proposed Plan rules can have different statuses, some may have current legal effect and others will not until the Proposed Plan becomes operative. This data is provided for use in the District Plan only.
Flood Ponding Areas are areas of land that experience floodwater ponding in a 1% Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP) rainfall event. Only two Flood Ponding Areas have been specifically identified on the planning maps. One of the areas is located in the southern part of Huntly adjacent to the eastern bank of the Waikato River and the other is in Huntly West adjacent to Lake Waahi and Lake Puketirini. This belongs to the series of data relating to Natural Hazards which includes the following groups - coastal erosion, coastal inundation, inland flooding, and land subsidence. This layer belongs to the inland flooding group. Use in conjunction with High Risk Flood Area, Flood Plain Management Area, and Defended Area.
METHODOLOGY:
The Flood Ponding Area near Lake Waahi was determined by 2D modelling of a 1% Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP) flood event, carried out by DHI.
The Flood Ponding Area adjacent to the eastern bank of the Waikato River in Huntly South was carried out by the Waikato Regional Council and the Waikato District Council and reported in the Huntly Flood Management Plan 1992 - Waikato Regional Council Technical Publication # 1992 [ECM#1067393]. This area is the same as Huntly South Assessment 1 in the Operative District Plan. It was not reassessed for the Proposed District Plan as there was not enough data available on the Huntly stormwater network to evaluate the hazard and provide meaningful results.
SOURCE DATA:
- The area around Lake Waahi is from the 2D model, generated by DHI, provided by Waikato Regional Council (Waikato_Horotiu_to_Ohinewai_2p3deg.shp). This area was originally part of the DP_Flood_Plain_Management_Area layer, but was removed and identified as Flood Ponding Area instead.
- The area in Huntly south is from the shape from the Operative District Plan (Huntly South Assessment 1 ).
